Bro. Donald “Don” F. Coggins age 66 of Somerset, Ky. passed away on Thursday September 25, 2014 at his home.
He was born on June 25, 1948 in Somerset, Ky. to Mozell Hessy.
Don was a member of Jordan Baptist Church. He had proudly served in the United States Air Force. Don was the current principal of Jordan Christian Academy, was the current coach for Burnside Generals football program, Chaplin of Burnside Police Department and Fire Department, member of the Ethics Community of Burnside, a former EMT and Firefighter, youth mentor and former Burnside City Council. Don was also an advocate for special needs children and just children in general. He was a foster parent to many and too numerous to count. He loved all of his grandchildren and his church.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Ann Thompson Coggins and two daughters, Sarah Coggins and Amanda Lawless.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Marlane Sears Coggins. His mother, Mozell Hessy of Gadsden, Alabama. Two sons, Scott (and Bobbie) Coggins of Burnside, Ky. and Timothy Coggins of Somerset, Ky. Two daughters, Mechele (and Randy) Rowe of Somerset, Ky. and Charlee Coggins of Somerset, Ky. One brother, Roger (and Elizabeth) of Alabama. Two sisters, Nancy (and Jeff) Graham of Alabama and Carol (and Mark) Collier of Alabama. One step-son, Phillip Lawless of Russell Springs, Ky. Two step-daughters, Samantha Warriner of Somerset, Ky. and Melinda (and Bradley Bunch) Lawless of Russell Springs, Ky.
Grandchildren, Brittney (and Shawn) Parson, Charity Rowe, Jaydon Coggins, Keaton Smith, Kolton Goff, Amanda Warriner, Nathaniel Hosack, Mariah Hosack, Jaydon Lawless, Jaylin Lawless, Christopher Warriner, Aiyhana Lawless, Abigail Bunch, Chandler Bunch, Heidi Bunch and Grayson “Bob” Bunch. Also surviving his mother-in-law, Mary Sears of Somerset, Ky. and 2 adopted sons, Johnathan Wilson and Jordan Coggins of Casey Co., Ky.
Visitation wil be held on Sunday September 28, 2014 from 5pm until 9pm at the Jordan Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday September 29, 2014 at 11am at the Jordan Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Miller officiating.
Burial will follow in the Southern Oaks Cemetery.
Full Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
