Floyd “Buddy” Green
March 14, 1947 – September 25, 2026
Floyd “Buddy” Green passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026, leaving behind a life marked by faith, devotion to family, service to his country, and a deep love for those closest to him.
Buddy was born March 14, 1947, to the late Ralph and Madge Green and was the oldest of their children. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael Green.
Buddy’s faith was an important foundation throughout his life. He accepted Jesus Christ into his heart as a young boy at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and continued to serve the Lord as a member of Lockett’s Chapel. His Christian faith remained a source of strength and comfort throughout his life.
A proud veteran, Buddy served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving with the Blackhorse 11th Armored Cavalry and the 919th Engineer Group. His military service was a distinction he carried with great pride throughout his life, and the bonds formed through that service remained especially meaningful to him. Buddy looked forward to attending the annual reunions, where he could reconnect with fellow veterans, reminisce, and share in the special brotherhood forged through their service together.
His commitment to his fellow veterans continued long after his time in the Army. Buddy was a lifetime member of Monticello DAV Chapter 105 and proudly served as a member of the DAV Honor Guard, paying tribute to fellow veterans with dignity, respect, and gratitude for their service.
For 55 years, Buddy shared his life with his beloved wife, Janet Green. Their marriage was the foundation of a family he treasured deeply. He leaves behind his wife, Janet; their only daughter, Ashley Langdon and her husband, Pete; and his grandson, Indred Whitaker.
Being a grandfather was one of Buddy’s greatest joys. He took tremendous pride in Indred and especially loved watching him play basketball. From his high school years through his college career, Buddy treasured the opportunity to watch his grandson play, cheer him on, and celebrate his accomplishments. Those moments brought him immeasurable pride and happiness.
Buddy had a lifelong passion for restoring street rods and vintage automobiles. He not only enjoyed building street rods, but also loved traveling across the country in them, creating countless memories and friendships along the way. He was a proud member of the Grey Beards, a group of men from around the world brought together by their shared appreciation and love for vintage cars. Through the Grey Beards and his travels, Buddy was able to share a passion that brought him great enjoyment and connected him with friends near and far.
Above all, Buddy will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, man of faith, and loyal friend. The life he built, the family he loved, the friendships he made, and the service he gave to both his Lord and his country leave a legacy that will continue through those who loved him.
Visitation for Floyd “Buddy” Green will be held Monday, September 28, 2026, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Following the funeral service, Buddy will be laid to rest at Mill Springs National Cemetery with full military honors, a fitting tribute to a man who proudly served his country and continued honoring his fellow veterans throughout his life.
