OD Burdine, aged 85, of Somerset, Ky, passed away peacefully from this life on September 13th, 2025. OD was born to Cartell and Minnie Mae Blankenship Burdine on August 6th, 1940. OD was raised by his grandparents Oma and Mary Burdine and resided in the community of Stab, Ky. OD married his loving wife, Joyce Catherine Hughes Burdine on March 17th, 1960. OD spent his younger years working in different factories, then later for Greer Brothers as a laborer helping to build East Hwy 80. However, he most enjoyed working for Pulaski County Schools as a maintenance worker, which he retired from.

OD had many hobbies that he enjoyed doing. He spent his time driving, taking walks, watching westerns, especially John Wayne. He loved eating, especially his sweets, listening to music, and taking care of his animals. Even though he enjoyed all these hobbies, his most favorite hobby was following his grandkids around on the farm and watching over them. He drove many miles around the farm watching and protecting his grandkids.

OD leaves to mourn, his children, Gale Lynn “Sissy” Phelps of Somerset, Ky, who served as his caretaker until his passing, Dale (Jana) Burdine of Somerset, Ky, and Roy (Jackie) Burdine of Somerset, Ky. OD leaves behind his grandchildren, Christopher Phelps of Somerset, Ky, Amy Evans of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Brandon (Devan) Phelps of Somerset, Ky. He also leaves behind his great- grandchildren Destiny Evans of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ciara Halphen-Thompson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Britney Phelps of Somerset, Ky, and Madison Burdine of Somerset, Ky. OD is also survived by his siblings BJ (Josephine) Burdine and Mary Jo (Dale) Burton of Nancy, Ky.

OD is proceeded in death by his parents, Cartell and Minnie Mae Blankenship Burdine, his wife, Joyce Catherine Burdine, son, Roger Lane Burdine, granddaughter, Heather Burdine, great- grandson, Gator Evans, and siblings, Vivian (Leonard) Williamson, Wayne (Elaine) Burdine, and infant Leon Burdine.

A visitation for friends and family will be held at Southern Oaks Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 17th 2025 after 5:00pm. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 18th 2025 at 11:00a.m. with Pastor David Bullock and Bro. Terry Matlock officiating at the Massey Cemetery in Pumpkin Hollow. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
