Marie Morgan Arvai passed away on March 3, 2025, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Unit at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

Born and raised in Breathitt County, Kentucky, Marie pursued her passion for education at the University of Kentucky, earning a bachelor’s degree in education. She continued her studies at Lee’s College and Morehead State University, where she obtained her master’s degree and Rank 1 certification.

Marie began her teaching career at Burdine Elementary in Jenkins, KY before transitioning to the Letcher County School System in Whitesburg, where she remained for the rest of her career. She taught students from preschool through high school and cherished every role she held. Her dedication extended beyond the classroom, as she took great pride in following her students’ successes long after they graduated.

Beyond teaching, Marie had a deep love for gardening. With a remarkable green thumb, she found joy in nurturing plants and sharing seeds and seedlings with friends, neighbors, and loved ones. She was an active member of the Homemakers Group “Just Among Friends” in Somerset, Kentucky, where she formed lasting friendships. She also enjoyed staying active with Silver Sneakers at the Alumni Center in Somerset.

Marie loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them. She could often be found at sporting events supporting her grandchildren, driving them to practice, or preparing pre game meals for them. She loved to travel and reflected on trips with her grandchildren as some of her favorite memories.

Marie’s faith was central to her life. She was a devoted member of Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church in Whitesburg and attended First Presbyterian Church in Somerset with her beloved family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Betty (Hensley) Morgan, and her husband, Robert Arvai.

Marie leaves behind her beloved daughter, Autumn (Forrest) Brock of Somerset, and her two cherished grandchildren, Jonah and Natalie Brock. She is also survived by her brother Charles (Ruth) Morgan Jr. of Jackson, KY; niece Angie (David) Deal of Campton, KY; great-nieces and nephews Jonathan, Sarah, and Steven Deal; and niece Pam (Terry) Anderson of Whitesburg, KY, and her nephew Jamie Arvai of Ohio.

Marie’s kindness, dedication, and unwavering faith touched many lives. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
