Carter Ray Whittle, age 62 of Shopville passed away Friday December 27, 2013 at his residence.

He was born on October 17, 1951 in Nancy, KY to the late Lawrence and Goldie Stevens Whittle.

Carter was a United States Army Veteran and former Owner Operator of Carter’s Body Shop of Somerset. He was a member of the Fellowship United Methodist Church where he was an active member and enjoyed dedicating his time to helping around the church. He also enjoyed his family, friends, church family, painting and doing body work on cars, exploring caves, fishing and collecting antiques and arrowheads.

He is preceded in death by his parents. One son, Scott Ray Whittle. One brother, Gary Gene West and a niece, Anna Murphy. A nephew, Anthony Whittle. A special uncle, Elza Whittle and a great niece, Melissa Ping.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Gwin Whittle, whom he married on November 17, 2005 in Somerset, KY. Three sons, Joshua Nathaniel (April) Whittle of Somerset, KY, Enoch Ray Whittle of Somerset, KY and Billy (Brittney) Baker of Somerset, KY. One daughter, Deetta (Nathan Farmer) Whittle of Somerset, KY. Two brothers, Steve (Melinda) Whittle of Somerset, KY and Larry Jay Whittle of Somerset, KY. One sister, Deetta Kay Escoto of Somerset, KY. Three aunts, Bonnie Loper of Dayton, OH, Judy Whittle of Nancy, KY and Sue Truesdale of Nancy, KY. One uncle, Jim Whittle of Nancy, KY. A special niece, Somer Lee Escoto. A special first cousin, Lewis Whittle of Mississippi. Special friends, Rick Muse, C.V. Hansford, Bro. David Altizer and Louise Baker. Seven grandchildren, Jordan Lee, Hunter Ray Daulton, Railey Daulton, Rayden Whittle, Nathaniel Whittle, Branden Baker, Bentley Baker. Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 31, 2013 after 10am in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday December 31, 2013 at 1pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. David Altizer officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, KY with full Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Josh Whittle, Billy Baker, Steve Whittle, Enoch Whittle, Nathan Farmer, Rick Muse, C.V. Hansford and Chris Whittle. Honorary Pallbearers, Larry Whittle and J.D. Hansford.
