Eddie Gene Whitis, 77, of Whitis Road, Somerset, Kentucky departed this life Thursday November 28, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, he was born July 30, 1936 in the Price Valley Community to the late Melvin Lee Whitis and Elsie Hawk Whitis. He worked for the Kentucky State Highway Department and he was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Maxine Miller Whitis, whom he married on November 1, 1969 in Jellico, Tennessee; A Daughter, Connie Jean Whitis of Somerset, Kentucky; Step son, David Edward Dobbs of Winchester, Kentucky; Three step grandsons, Matthew Dobbs, Michael Dobbs of Winchester, Kentucky and B.J. Duncan of Cincinnati, Ohio; One step granddaughter, Tonya Redd of Cincinnati, Ohio; Two step great-grandchildren, Harley Redd of Cincinnati, Ohio and Lincoln Dobbs of Winchester, Kentucky; Sister in law, Joyce Whitis; two nephews, Dennis (and Paula) and Ken Whitis, both of Somerset; Two nieces, Donna (and Ronny) Warren of Somerset and Patty (and Keith) Whitaker of Shopville, Kentucky along with several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Earl “Pete” Whitis, Ray Whitis, Kenneth Whitis, Junior Whitis, Garner Whitis; sister, Ella Mae Decker; step daughter, Jenny Dobbs Smith; nephew, Bennie Lee Decker.
Visitation for Mr. Whitis will be Sunday December 1, 2013 from 1-3 P.M. in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3 P.M. Interment will follow in the Pine Thicket Cemetery with Bro. David Dykes officiating.
