Joseph E. Placke, age 79 of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at Baptist Health in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born on July 13, 1943 in Grundy, Kentucky, son of the late Henry and Daisy Jackson Placke. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service and was a member of Rock Lick Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed the outdoors and loved farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William Placke and Eddie Placke; and one sister, Wanda Wesley.
Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Katy Placke; son, Alan (Teri) Placke of Somerset; daughter, Allison (Michael) Gregg of Somerset; grandchildren, Will Gregg, Henry Gregg and Andrew Gregg; nephew, Chris (Debra) Placke of Texas, and a special cousin, Herman (Midge) Placke of Somerset.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Brad Gover and Bro. Raymond Ridner officiating. Burial will be in Rock Lick Cemetery.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Joseph E. Placke.
Wanting to send mine and Rich”s deepest condolences. Also, my brother David Eggers and his wife, Elaine are saddened by this and send their condolences too. They are out of town right now and won’t be able to attend the funeral. We all grew up here on Grundy and J.E. will be missed

So sorry to hear about Joe. Just found out today or I would have been there to give my respect to a great man. I loved working with Joe. Prayers for the family in your time of grief.
