John E. Massey went to his Heavenly Home June 26, 2012 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, Kentucky.

On May 4, 1922 John was born in Normal, Illinois to John and Juil Massey. The Massey family moved to Somerset, Kentucky in 1931. John was the first of nine children born to this happy family. John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, George and Joe, sister in law Esther (George), Nancy Lou (Steve) and Nancy Ann (Nick) and his wife of 61 years, Ruth Ellen Massey. John and Ruth were blessed with two children, Suzanne Darling, Cincinnati, Ohio and Tim (Bev) Massey of Morrow, Ohio . In addition to his two children John is survived by three grandchildren Jennifer (Tony) Naylor, Ryan (Melissa) darling and Christian (Molly) Massey as well as brothers and sister: Mary Hammond Cummins , Ken (Patsy) Massey, Nick (Anna Jane) Massey, Steve (Katie) Massey, Jake (Cloyce) Massey and Margaret (Doug) Holt and sister in law Nell Stratton.

On April 30, 2005 John and Jean Kemper Massey were united in marriage in Cincinnati and have made their home in Somerset, Kentucky. John has three step children: Paul (Jan) Kemper,Mary Beth (Mark) Williams and Ruth Ann Boyd. Also three step grandchildren David (Katie) Kemper, Katie (Matt) Leitchenberg and Amanda Hartman as well as four step great grandchildren.

Also in John’s family are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

In 1941 John graduated from Somerset High School as a football star headed to Cincinnati, Ohio where he graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Electrical Engineering and later earned his Mechanical Engineering degree. In 1993 John retired from American Financial Corporation after 43 years with AFC serving as Property Manager. Also John was a 32nd degree Mason and he attended lodge in Cincinnati Ohio. John was a Kentucky Colonel. He was known as “Mr. Fix It” and loved working on Mercedes Benz and rebuilt nine Mercedes Benz’s.

John was an active member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cincinnati for many years before moving to Somerset. At the time of death John was a charter member of Harmony Fellowship Baptist Church in Somerset. John loved and humbly served the Lord in numerous ways as well as his family and friends. Well done thou good and faithful servant!

Viewing will be Thursday, June 28 at the Southern Oaks Funeral Home, 2110 West Highway 914, Somerset, Kentucky 42503 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at the Strawser Funeral Home 9503 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday June 29th. Funeral services for John E. Massey will be at MT. Carmel Baptist Church 8645 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45242
