Hazel Farmer Harris passed away on Wednesday June 6, 2012 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Hazel Harris was born in the Acorn Community on February 18, 1921, the eldest child of Dewey and Susie Cottingim Farmer. She was a faithful member of Barnesburg Baptist Church until her illness prevented her from attending. She was a housewife and loved and cherished her home and being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and loved gardening. She dearly loved to taker her children, grandchildren and relatives to the old home places and reminisce the memories of her childhood and younger years.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years. She was married to Arvel Harris on March 15, 1938. He passed away on September 16, 2009.
Mrs. Harris is survived by two sons: Denzil (and Vinnie) Harris, Harold (and Alma) Harris and one daughter, Frances (and James Delma) Smith, all of Somerset.
She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Sherre Sharpe, Susie (and Daryl) Templeman, Kathy (and Larry) Pumphrey, Terry Price, Jim (and Michelle) Harris, Tim Harris, Ginger (and Greg) Baldwin, Greg ( and Jamie) Smith, Rhonda Wheeldon and Marty ( and Lynda) Harris; Four step grandchildren: Debbie Dutton, Mallie (and Mark) Pennington, Mack ( and Amber) Baker and Lillian (and Shane) Denham.
Also surviving are thirteen great grandchildren: Andrew Pumphrey, Jennifer Mounce, Jill Harton, Trey Sharpe, Josh Harris, Hannah Jolly, A.J. Sharpe, Aaron Baldwin, Mckinzie Price, Andrew Harris, Cole Smith, Kasey Smith, and Katelyn Smith.
Eight step great grandchildren: Misty Tingle, Brad Groves, Brannon and Jessica Wheeldon, Brandon, Ashley and Allison Pennington, Kaitlyn and Dylan Baker and Preston Denham.
Four great grandchildren: Mattie D.Ann Ferrell, Holly Marie Harris, Ty Jolly and Cooper Harton. Four step great grandchildren: Sebastian, Abrams and Jasper Tingle and Zander Mounce.
Mrs. Harris is also survived by two brothers; John Bryce (and Edna) Farmer of Greenwood, Indiana and J.D. (and Vera) Farmer, Mooresville, Indiana along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters: Marie Farmer Inabnitt, Pearl Farmer Purvis and one brother, Earl Farmer and two great grandchildren, Dana Nicole Price, and Jacob H. Harris.
Visitation for Mrs. Harris will be Friday June 8, 2012 after 6 P.M. at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Harris will be Saturday June 9, 2012 at 11 A.M. in the Chapel of Southern Oaks with Bro. Harold Harris, Bro. Jim Harris, Bro. Austin Campbell, and Bro. Tony Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnesburg Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be sent to Hospice of Somerset.
Pall Bearers will be Andy Pumphrey, Josh Harris, Andrew Harris, Trey Sharpe, A.J. Sharpe, Aaron Baldwin, Cole Smith, and Brannen Wheeldon.
