Walter Steven Syphax, Jr., friends called him Steve, age 82, of Somerset, Kentucky, seemingly took Jesus Christ’ hands & went Home to Heaven, on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at Somerset Nursing and Rehab.
Steve was born on March 19, 1943 to the late Walter Steven Syphax and Laura Tolle Syphax in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Steve was a member of Science Hill Christian Church. He enjoyed golf with his many friends; building almost anything with his son Steve; and woodworking with Cincinnati friends! As a matter of fact, Steve’s love of woodworking went as far as helping to build a lake log cabin, with his best friend Mac Chandler. Steve sang in a Christian Quartet in Cincinnati. He shared a passion for playing the guitar with his son Mike and Grandson Michael Lucas Dean!
For several years, Steve and his beautiful wife Shirley volunteered with “FRIENDS OF LAKE CUMBERLAND” a community led group. Steve served as President.  
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Laura Syphax and brother Robert Syphax.
He leaves behind the family he loved & who love him, his wife (of 62 years) Shirley Fay Dean Syphax; sons James Steven Syphax (Steve) of Cincinnati, OH and Michael K. Syphax and Michael’s wife, Cynthia Ann of Somerset, Ky; sister Sueann S. Thies of Cincinnati, OH and grandchildren James Steven Syphax, Jr. (Stevie); Stephanie Faye Syphax Valentine; Stacy Elizabeth Syphax, and Michael Lucas Dean Syphax !

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 10am-12pm in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 12pm with Brother Charles Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in Southern Oaks Cemetery.
