James Robert Irvine Sr.

James Robert Irvine Sr., 73, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025.

Born on December 6, 1951, in Somerset, KY, James was raised in Ohio before returning to his hometown, where he raised his children and built a life rooted in love, authenticity, and connection.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Delores F. Irvine and James E. Irvine; his sister, Betty S. Irvine; his son, Joshua R. Irvine; and his grandson, Daniel L. Harless.

He is survived by his brothers Larry (Gaye) Irvine, Chuck (Terri) Irvine, and his sister Shannon (Greg) Lewis, all of Hamilton, Ohio. He leaves behind his children: James (Christine) Irvine and Jason (Estella) Irvine, both of Somerset, KY, and his daughter Rebecca (Joseph) Baucom of Indiana. James was a proud grandfather to Mark, Jesse, Angel (Lee), Daniele, Blair, Donovan, Ron, Hayley, Jazzabella, Jayden, and Juliana, and a loving great-grandfather to Camila and Leo.

He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who loved him deeply and will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

James dedicated his professional life to serving others, working at Oakwood, where he provided care and compassion to individuals with special needs.

He will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind soul — a free spirit with a heart full of love, a sharp sense of humor, and a deep, steady faith. James was a true hippie at heart, a man of God who welcomed everyone with open arms and an open mind. Honest, caring, and never one to judge, he lived life on his own terms and taught others to do the same. Whether through a good story, a shared meal, or a simple moment of laughter, James made people feel valued, seen, and loved.

Though he will be greatly missed, James would want everyone to live their lives to the fullest — to chase what brings them joy, to love without fear, and to never let anyone else determine where their life should go.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 11am in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 1pm.
