After serving in the Army toward the end of the Korean Conflict, Lester enjoyed a long and varied work life. As an entrepreneur, Lester was a writer and photographer, developing and publishing advertising and postcards, as well as writing articles which were published in numerous magazines and newspapers. However, he felt that his most significant accomplishment was quietly and slowly becoming a leader in his church, Maranatha Baptist in Somerset, KY.

My condolences to the entire Abbott family. I got to know Lester many years ago through involvement in projects and programs to help educate our community on ways to expand the opportunities for economic growth, health, nutrition, and safety. Being Berea College Alumni gave us a special connection and shared values.
