Arthur Frank Patscheck III, 63 years of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset following a short illness.

He was born in Hemet, California on July 31, 1961, a son of the late Rev. Arthur Frank Patscheck Jr. and Katherine Wahl Patscheck of Morongo Valley, California.

He was confirmed in the Christian faith on April 6, 1975, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wimbledon with his father officiating.

Arthur was a 1979 graduate of Wimbledon High School in Wimbledon, North Dakota. He served as student manager of the 7th and 8th grade basketball team, played trumpet in the band, sang in senior chorus, and was a senior letterman on the 1978 football team. He won the John Sousa Band Award for outstanding band student.

Arthur began his post-secondary education at North Dakota State School of Science in Wimbledon in the architectural drafting program from 1979-1980. He then studied in the Director of Christian Education program at Concordia University in Irvine, CA. He completed an A.A. degree at Blair Junior College in Colorado Springs, CO. After moving to Kentucky, he earned an Associate Degree from Somerset Community College. He was a Microsoft Certified Professional and earned numerous Microsoft certificates.

He was an informal student of astronomy throughout his life and also enjoyed science fiction, especially all versions of Star Trek. As an avid gamer, he spent many happy hours playing Dungeons and Dragons, Magic The Gathering, and other tabletop games with his wife and friends. He and his family enjoyed playing as a team in World of Warcraft where “Papaw” served in the role of “tank,” keeping his family safe from the biggest and baddest monsters in the game. He also was skillful in simulation games such as flight, train, and golfing simulators. While health permitted, he designed golf courses for play in Microsoft Links. He was named Microsoft’s Arnold Palmer Course Designer of the Month in September 2001 and had an interview published on their web site. He wrote and published an e-book on digital golf course design which received national and international praise.

He was proud of working himself through the ranks as a Mason and was a member of Mt. Gilead Masonic Lodge #255.

Arthur enjoyed meeting new people, sharing jokes, cooking, learning, wood working, discovering new technical devices and toys, and even took up sewing briefly to try to make a new Star Trek uniform. He staunchly believed in the values Gene Roddenberry used to craft the Star Trek universe: fairness, equality, respect, open-mindedness, and opportunity.

While living in Mesa, AZ, he worked 11 years for M.J.A.R. corporation where he served as controller. After moving to Somerset, he worked in computer fields for Super Service and SAIC. He obtained his real estate license and was a Realtor with Realty World Dowell & Associates before becoming disabled.

Arthur is survived by his mother, Katherine Patscheck, a sister, Cheryl (and Michael) Adamski, and a brother, Andrew (and Tiffanie) Patscheck, all of Morongo Valley, CA; his wife of 28 years, Kathy Decker Patscheck; one son, Mark Allen Gregory of Somerset, Kentucky; one daughter, Amy Beth (and Russ) Strunk of Science Hill, KY, two granddaughters, Cadence Ember Garland, Science Hill, KY, and Skylar Rae Strunk of Fredericksburg, VA; nephews Aaron and Zachary Adamski, of CA, and Anthony Zunno, of NY; nieces Kaylee Adamski and Madeline Patscheck, of CA, and Julie Decker, of Shopville, KY; and a great niece, Charlotte Adamski, of CA.
