Joann Sears Colyer, age 87 of Somerset, Kentucky, went to be with our Lord on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
She was born on January 24, 1938 in Stab, Kentucky, daughter of the late Leonard and Melda Whitaker Sears.
Joann was a member of Clay Hill Baptist Church. In her life, she worked as a clerical secretary for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. She worked as a cook for the Somerset School system and she enjoyed being a Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden and being with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Colyer; sons, Roland Douglas Colyer and Carrol Colyer; sisters, Sylvia Whitaker, Connie Eversole and Lucille Goodin; and grandchildren, Kyle Roberts, Nina Mae Buster and Jazilyn Martin; son-in-law, Don Turner, brother-in-law, Rick Mullins and sister-in-law, Cheryl L. Sears.
She is survived by daughters, Genevieve Turner and Sylvia (Tim) Roberts; brothers, Davis Sears and Gary (Cheryl E.) Sears; sisters, Barbara Mullins, Linda (Edwin) Price and Kay Sears; grandchildren, Christopher (Jaleesa) Colyer, Jasmine Martin, Josh Roberts, Dr. Travis (Dr. Lisa) Martin, Darrin Turner, Scott Turner and Rachel (Zach) Grigsby; great-grandchildren, Abigail Colyer, Adalynn Colyer, Ashlynn Colyer, Grayson Don Grigsby, Austin Carrender, Jet Owens, Gabriel Martin, Ethan Roberts and Avery Martin; and a host of other family members and friends.
Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Clay Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Jeff Lockard and Bro. Bobby Church officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Gideon Bible Plan.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Joann Sears Colyer.
