Della B. Hargis of Eubank passed away Feb. 22, 2025, at the age of 83 with her family by her side. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother — a beautiful soul who would help anyone and showed her love through the delicious food she cooked. Her radiant smile lit up any room she entered. Her Christian faith carried her through this life, and the community she found at Bethel Baptist Church meant the world to her. She loved spending time with her husband and their family and friends, as well as their beloved dogs, Mitzi and Simba.
Della married Ernest “Denver” Hargis in June 1958. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and friends. They were blessed with a daughter, Pamela.
Although Della is gone, she will live forever in our hearts. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Denver Hargis; her daughter, Pamela Crawford and husband Kenny; her grandchildren, Brandon Crawford and wife Heather, Michelle Engelhardt and husband Matt, Philip Crawford and wife Christina; six great-grandchildren (Jace, Cooper, Brooke, Owen, Avery and Wesley); brother Rayford Bray; sister Marg Bray; brother Ed Bray and his wife Rhonda.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Rosie Bray, sister Lou Emma Sims, and daughters Roxanne and Sherry Lynn Hargis.
Throughout her life, Della taught us all to love one another, to eat our vegetables, and to realize that sometimes the best way to support the people you love is simply to feed them.
Funeral services will be held at Southern Oaks Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 28, with public visitation starting at noon and a funeral service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Somerset-Pulaski County Humane Society.
