William Jake Thomas, age 74, of Somerset, passed from this life on Monday, September 12, 2016, at the home of his daughter
William was born on December 2, 1941, in the Combs Community, son of the late Jacob “Jake” and Cora Myrtle Sego Thomas. He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army. William was a self-employed mechanic. He was a member of the American Legion Post #115 and the Meece VFW, in Scott County, Tennessee. William enjoyed writing and having company, especially when company was his grandchildren. He loved being outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. William loved working on old cars and tinkering around the house, trying to invent new motors.
He is survived by his sons, Michael Warren Thomas, of Whitley County, and Mark Edward Thomas, of McCreary County; his daughter, Jennifer Thomas, of Somerset; his sister, Opal Marie Patrick, of McCreary County; his five grandchildren, Tyler Michael Thomas, Nathan Allen Thomas, Joshua Tristan Thomas, Marc Damien Thomas and Ciera Leann Thomas; and his former wife and mother of his children, Imogine Angel Thomas, of McCreary County.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jessie A. Thomas, Forrest Edward Thomas and Boyd Allen Thomas; and his sister, Claira Mabel Elam.
A private service will be held for William’s family at a later date. Burial will be in the Barren Fork Cemetery of McCreary County.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He will be missed. Pete was always good to me, always wanting to crack a joke when I’d see him out in town and we’d stop to talk, usually when I got gas at Larry’s Somerset Oil. My husband Roger always liked Pete. He’s spoke many times of the talents that Pete had…especially painting and doing body work on vehicles. Roger always said, not one was better at that than Pete.

Pete. Will be missed by all I have not saw him in many years but he was always around when I was growing up. He was a good person. Love to all the family.
Thank you Pete for fixing my trolling motor so it would work on my boat. It’s a shame we never got to go out fishing together and try it out. I know you’re fishin’ up there in heaven though.
