James Q. Cantrell, age 71, of Somerset, KY., passed away on Saturday July 4, 2015 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on January 4, 1944 in Pikeville, KY., to the late Clifford and Faye Justice Cantrell.

He was of Baptist Faith and attended Slate Branch Church. He retired from General Motors after having worked in both Michigan and Tennessee for 30 years. He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, gospel music, going to church, and singing at the active Daycare and Alzheimers Center.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Faye Cantrell.

He is survived by his wife, Eula Stiltner Cantrell of Somerset, KY; one son, James E. Cantrell of Somerset, KY; three brothers, Danny Cantrell of Hurley, VA; Bill Cantrell of Napolean, OH; and Eddie (and Linda) of Somerset, KY; a very special brother, Clifford Jr. (and Jenette) Cantrell of Somerset, KY; four sisters, Shirley Dotson of Pawpaw, KY; Linda (and Roger) Kinder of Lewisburg, TN; Connie (and Kenneth) Royal of Grundy, VA; and Nadine Mireles of Grand Rapids, MI; a special friend and singing partner, Frankie Vaught of Somerset, KY; and a special niece, Terry McCutcheon of Somerset, KY.

Visitation will be held on Monday July 6, 2015 at 6pm with Masonic Services at 7pm in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday July 7, 2015 at 11am in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Dawson officiating.

Burial will follow in Southern Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Slate Branch Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
