Betty Lou Calhoun, age 73, of Somerset, passed from this life on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset.

She was born on Oct 12, 1944 in Somerset, Kentucky, daughter of the late Garfield Smith and Bessie Meeks Smith.

Betty was a Retired Supervisor with Cowdens Manufacturing Company of Stanford after several years of dedicated service. On December 10, 1958 she was married to Albert Calhoun, Sr. in Jellico, Tennessee, this year they would have celebrated 60 years of life together. She was of the Church of God Faith and attended the World Wide Church of God. Betty was a strong willed, independent woman who enjoyed shopping, yard sales and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be sincerely missed by those who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers; Arlee (Elva) Smith, Grady Smith, Ernold (Pansey) Smith, Raymond (Reba) Smith, Ernest Smith and Jerry Michael Smith, six sisters; Vonna (William) Johnson, Marsha Whitaker, Geraldine Smith, Jeweldine Smith, Oshie Bolin and Opal Burkett.

She leaves behind to cherish her precious memory; her husband; Albert Calhoun, Sr., of Somerset, two sons; William (Becky) Calhoun of Nancy, and Albert (Kim) Calhoun, Jr., a daughter; Stephanie (David) Wilson of Monticello, nine grandchildren, eighteen grandchildren, brothers; Marconie (Della) Smith of Somerset, Larry (Jill) Smith of Hamilton, Ohio and Garfield (Edie) Smith of Somerset, a sister -in-law; Thelma Smith of Indiana, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Danny Lawless officiating. Interment will be in the Serenity Gardens of Southern Oaks Cemetery.
