Mr. Cecil Herman Hensley, age 90, of Burnside, passed from this life on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.

He was born May 27, 1927 in Wallins Creek, Kentucky, son to the late Moss Hensley and Renda Hopkins Hensley. Cecil was a member of the Dixie Bend Baptist Church. He was employed as a Book Binder at McCalls in Dayton, Ohio for many years and was a former coal miner. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, boating, walking outdoors, and baseball. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents; he is preceded in death by his wife; Betty Lou Lee Hensley, daughter; Carolyn Hensley, brothers; Gib Hensley, Jay Hensley, and Tubby Hensley, sisters; Della May Haywood, and one grandchild; Bethany Hensley

Cecil is survived by his sons; Ronnie (Connie) Hensley of Dayton, Ohio and Rodney (Trish) Hensley of Sterns, Kentucky, daughter; Ruthann (George) Shawyer of Burnside, Kentucky, brothers; Gene Boy (Pam) Hensley of Dayton, Ohio, Arlis (Mildred) Hensley of Wallins Creek, and Chuck (Birdie) Hensley of Wallins Creek, sisters; Irene (Charles) Meeks of Florida, Ann (Sam) Van Deursem of Chicago, Illinois, Geraldine Adams of London, Kentucky, Betty Jean ( Bob) Parker of Louisville, Kentucky, Florence (Denny) Puleo of New York, 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 6 o’clock p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 25, 2017 at 10 o’clock a.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Hammonds and Bro. Josh Wesley officiating. A graveside service and burial will be held at 2 o’clock p.m. at the Park Howard Cemetery in Harlan County, Kentucky.

Serving as Pallbearers will be: Rodney Allen Hensley, Dale Beam III, Stephen Allen Beam, Josh Hensley, Zac Beam, and Noah Bell.

Full military honors will be conducted for Mr. Hensley by the Harlan Honor Guard.
