Ray J. Smith, age 76, of Russell Springs, Kentucky passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Russell County Hospital while in the care of Hospice of Lake Cumberland.  He was born on December 8, 1940 in Russell Springs, to the late Adron E. and Dortha McQueary Smith.

Ray earned his Bachelor’s degree while living in Chicago. Illinois.   He attributed his expertise in “paint making” as one of his greatest accomplishments in life.  He was a retired superintendent with Branscum Construction of Russell Springs.  Ray was a farmer, builder and auto mechanic.  He enjoyed camping, boating and the outdoors and was of the Southern Baptist Faith.

Besides his parents he is predeceased by a brother; Edward Smith.

He is survived by his sons; Joe (Beverly) Smith of Stanford, Kentucky, Ray Neil (Kathy) Smith of Ohio, and Charles Lee Smith of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Two daughters; Sharon (Joe Ulland of Virginia, and Amy Jo (Robert) Kerr of Columbia, Kentucky.  A brother; Don (Judy) Smith of Russell Springs and a sister Wilma Faye Steegie of Illinois. Along with 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Mr. Smith’s wishes, he will be cremated and a celebration of life services will be held at a later date.
