Edwin “Wayne” Ping, age 82, of Somerset, passed away peacefully from this life on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at home, surrounded by loved ones.

Wayne was born in the Ruth Community on March 21, 1934, son of the late Edward F. and Marie Hughes Ping.  He graduated from Shopville High School in 1952 and joined the Navy.  He served as a gunner aboard the U.S.S. Jason.  Wayne served two years in Japan during the Korean War, achieving Petty Officer Second Class.  He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 269.  Wayne was a certified Journeyman Electrician.  He worked at Standard Armature and Lear Seigler, before becoming self-employed.   He owned and operated Industrial Motor Repair for 25 years. Wayne loved the outdoors; camping, hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Ard Ping, whom he married on September 24, 1976, in Somerset; two sons, Rick (and Doris) Ping, of Nancy, and Anthony Ping, of Somerset; a daughter, Debbie (and Charles) Pitman, of Faubush; four grandchildren, Angie (and Jeremy) Brown, of Nancy, Ashley Ping, Gary Ping and Skye Ping, of Somerset; two great-grandsons, Christopher and Ethan Brown, of Nancy; one brother, Marvin Ping, of Somerset; two sisters, Wilena (and Herman) Hamilton, of Somerset, and Elmeta (and Jim) Alexander, of Somerset; and several nieces, nephews and friends, all who will mourn his passing.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Ping; two granddaughters, Sonya and Tonya Taylor; a brother, Howard Ping; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Ping; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Ping.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 10, 2017, after 6:00 p.m., in Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Herman Hamilton officiating.  Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery.  Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
