James J. “Slim” Ard, age 66, of Nancy, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

James was born on July 16, 1950, in Somerset, one of eighteen children of the Harlan and Julia Rose Ard family.  He was a retired bus driver for White Lily Schools.  James loved fishing and hunting, and playing Rook with his friends.  He loved having fun with his “grandbabies”.

He is survived by his son, Jamie (and Kelly) Ard, of Somerset; his daughter, Gloria Sue Foley, of Lexington; his brother, Bart (and Tonya), of Cincinnati; his sisters, Tammy (and Joe), of New York, Sherry (and Tim), of Ohio, Shirly (and Terry), of Florida, Kayla, of Florida, Phyllis (and Mike), of Indiana, and Jenny, of Indiana; his grandchildren, Hannah Ard, Austin Ard, Megan Hammock, Evan Hammock, Ciera Foley and Tessa Foley; his great-granddaughter, Stormie Foley; and his special friend and companion, Jill Keith, of Nancy.

James is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Violet Ard; his infant daughter, Mary Frances Ard; his brothers, Jerry and John; and his sisters, Peggy, Geneva, Lora and Regina.

Visitation will be Friday, December 9, 2016, after 6:00 p.m., in Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Bro. Gilbert Robinson officiating.  Burial will be in the Hudson-Weddle Cemetery.
